Choosing a Home Inspector
Choosing the right home inspector is an important part of the home-buying process. The days of having a family member or friend who is familiar with the structure and systems of a home are almost gone.
Most good home inspectors are members of a national organization. As members they take an entrance exam, abide by a code of ethics and standards of practice and are required to do continuing education.
NAHI: National Association of Home Inspectors
ASHI: American Society of Home Inspectors
NACHI: InterNational Association of Certified Home Inspectors
Ask your inspector about their experience both as an inspector and in the “trades”.
Ask for references from realtors, recent buyers and lenders.
